Some items of note…

1.     Happy Lunar New Year – Guo Nian Hao - 过年好

Happy Chinese Lunar New Year! We had a great week of celebration and learning enjoying various activities connecting both school programs. We would like to thank the Mandarin Bilingual Program teachers and staff, led by our Learning Leader Mrs. Wang for organizing these opportunities for our school. We would also like to thank the students and leaders of the Peach Plum Dance Academy for donating their time sharing their Chinese cultural dances this morning as part of our continued celebrations and Connect Friday.

2.     Report Cards Go Live – February 24, 2026

Student report cards are live for viewing on your MyCBE Account from February 24, 2026 to May 29, 2026. Please be sure to look at these report cards on February 24, and celebrate your child’s learning to this point of the school year. This report card highlights both areas of strength and areas for growth as your child continues through their learning journey.

As always, we encourage ongoing communication between home and school about your child’s learning. Any questions about your child’s report card or learning should be directed to your child’s teacher. You can also review the CBE’s website for some helpful resources around Understanding Assessment & Reporting

3.     Pink Shirt Day – February 25, 2026

We encourage all students to wear pink on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 for Pink Shirt Day to stand up against bullying. Pink Shirt Day is now a national and global movement that encourages people of all ages to:

  • Wear pink as a visible symbol of support for kindness, inclusion, and respect for others.
  • Raise awareness and start conversations about why bullying is harmful and what we can do to prevent it.
  • Raise funds for programs that help children and youth build healthy self-esteem, resilience, and safe environments.

For more information about Pink Shirt Day, including bullying prevention resources and more, please visit the Calgary Board of Education’s website here.

4.     Grade 2 Learning Celebration – Mrs. Hoglund, Mrs. Wang, Mrs. Lee

Grade 2 students in Mrs. Hoglund, Mrs. Wang, Mrs. Lee will be hosting a Learning Celebration on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 starting at 10:00am. The celebration will share students’ current learning focusing on the Spirit domain - To Be with a theme of “Different Animals, Same Community” sharing learnings about the Chinese Zodiac animals and year of the horse, as well as connections to Indigenous Education classroom learning, focussed on connections to animals. We would like to invite parents of performing students from theses classes to attend if able. Please note that due to fire safety code we have to limit our parent viewing to the first 150 parents. Doors will open at 9:55am. If waiting outside, we ask that you please line up along the Main West Door sidewalk leading out towards Varsity Drive.

5.     Gymnastics in the Gym (March 2 – 19, 2026)

Please be sure to send your child to school ready to be active in gymnastics from March 2-19, 2026. Gymnastics follows a progression of skills from low, medium, to high movements based on student ability and comfort level, and follows CBE guidelines for student safety.

Progression of Skills:

-          Mats: Basic skill acquisitions such as poses, balancing, jumping, landing, and exploring a variety of ways to move.

-          Low-level equipment: Continue developing previous skills through the addition of equipment as well as learning how to use the equipment safely.

-          Traversing Wall: Adding new dimensions of movement using different apparatus and building on basic skills.

When participating in gymnastics over the month of March, we ask that students are dressed appropriately and prepared to participate by adhering to the following:

-          Wear clothing that allows freedom of movement (no special uniforms or leotards are required – sweat-pants/leggings and a t-shirt work best).

-          Well-fitting clothing is preferable instead of loose-fitting or baggy clothing as they may get caught on equipment when climbing.

-          All jewellery that could get caught on equipment should be removed (please leave these items at home). e.g., watches, rings, necklaces, dangling or hoop earrings, etc. Tape will secure any items that cannot be removed.

-          Students, regardless of gender, with long hair should have their hair tied back. Please send them with hair elastics or scrunchies.

-          Students will have the option of participating in running shoes or barefoot. Please do not wear footed tights. Students with foot injuries or other health issues concerning their feet must wear running shoes. Please check your child’s feet for any concerns.

Surfaces will be sanitized throughout the day to ensure a safe learning environment.
