Dear Parents / Guardians,
In this message…
- Sports Day
- Grade 6 Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs)
- School Fees Due
Thank you to all families who worked together to make our drop-off and pick-up more safe and smooth for all families and students. We received positive feedback from various parents during this week that during drop-off and pick-up times there has been a big positive difference in the flow of traffic along Varsity Drive and that families are using the designated crosswalk and school entry/exit sidewalks. Thank you very much to our Marion Carson families for supporting last week’s safety message.
Sports Day
Next Friday June 21 is our whole school sport day! This is going to be an engaging day for students as we move closer to the end of our school year. As we will be outside all day we strongly encourage hats, water bottles, sunglasses, and sunscreen (to be applied at home). We are hoping (water ban dependent) to have some water games. If your learner is someone who would be bothered if they are wet for a bit, then we suggest sending a change of clothes. The water games are optional so if they really don't like this there are of course many other games they can chose from and stay dry.
As it is sports day we also encourage proper footwear for running (e.g. no sandals, crocs, boots or flats, and no cleats). Students are also encouraged to wear any sports attire representing their favourite teams or teams they are a part of (e.g. basketball, football or soccer jerseys, etc.).
There is a special snack station with a popsicle and choice of fruit for students to have as a treat. If these snacks are something you do not want your child to have, please let their homeroom teacher know. ~Ms. Track and Ms. Collins (PEW Teachers)
Grade 6 Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs)
Students in grade 6 across Alberta have their provincial achievement test (PAT) on the same day and at the same time for each assessed subject. The grade 6 PATs for this year are coming up this week. Please ensure that you prepare you child for these standardized assessments by helping them get a good night’s sleep the night before, have a nutritious breakfast in the morning, and arrive at school during soft entry without any early morning rush or stress. This year, students are writing the following PATs starting first thing in the morning:
Grade 6 Social Studies – June 19, 2024
Grade 6 Science – June 20, 2024
Here is some information provided by the Alberta Government pertaining to PATs…
These standardized tests reflect the essentials that all Alberta students are expected to achieve, regardless of school choice or location.
PATs help:
- determine if students are learning what they are expected to learn
- report to Albertans how well students have achieved provincial standards at given points in their schooling
- assist schools, authorities and the province in monitoring and improving student learning
More information can be found on the province of Alberta’s website here.
School Fees Due
A reminder to parents to pay all school fees before the end of the school year. Please visit your MyCBE Account to review your fees for you child/children and ensure that you have no outstanding school fees at this point of the year. If you require assistance in finding this fees section online in your child’s account, please feel free to contact the school office at 403 777-6050.
