Dear Parents / Guardians,

In this message…

·        Staffing Update

·        Arriving Late for the 2024-25 School Year?

·        Back to School Information

A reminder that today was the last day of the school year for students and that there is no school on Friday, June 28 as this is an organizational day for staff and appeals day in the morning from 9am – 12pm. Please be sure to review your child’s report card online through your MyCBE account if you have not done so already. It is important to go through this information with your child and celebrate their learning successes throughout this year while also doing some goal setting for moving learning forward.

To all of our grade 6 Community English program students, grade 4 Mandarin Bilingual program students, and all other students and families moving on to a new school, we wish you the best of luck in your new adventure, and are confident that you have the tools to be successful wherever your path should lead you. Be sure to come back and visit when you have a moment. No matter how much time has passed, you are always welcome to come visit at Marion Carson School.

Finally, I would like to wish each and every family a safe, happy, and healthy summer break, and thank you for your support in your child’s learning throughout the year. As a school community, it’s the students, their families, and Marion Carson staff that together make this place such a welcoming environment that supports all students in being the best that they can be. Over the summer, we recommend your child reads and is read to daily, is challenged with math tasks connected to real world experiences, such as exploring all the numbers that come with the Olympic games, but most important of all take time to relax and be with family and friends. We look forward to seeing students and families back in the 2024-25 school year. Enjoy the break.

Some final items of note…

1.     Staffing Update

As the year comes to an end we would like to welcome two new staff members for next year:

-       Mr. Shuai Wang – Grade 3 Mandarin Bilingual Teacher

-       Ms. Rosa Viani – School Assistant Literacy

We have most of our staffing for next year complete. Please click here to see our staff roster for the 2024-25 school year.

2.     Arriving Late for the 2024-25 School Year?

Our first day back at school for the 2024-25 school year is August 29, 2024. If your child is coming late in due to extenuating circumstances and will not be present on the first day of school, please email the school office at MarionCarson@cbe.ab.ca with your child’s full name, the reason for the absence, and the date of return. Please also be sure to let the school know if you have had a change of address and moved out of area over the summer.

3.     Back to School Information

Our back to school information can be found here. Please be sure to review this information carefully to support a most successful start to the school year for your child. Reminder that our school hours have changed slightly for next year, and that we have soft entry where students can calmly come into the building from 9:00 – 9:05am. Please be sure to make plans for the start of the school year next year that support your child arriving during the soft entry time so that they are ready for instruction to begin right at 9:05am. Please note that there are not supervisors at the doors before 9am, therefore students should be with a guardian until that time if arriving early until the doors open to ensure their safety. Our school day will end at 3:40pm from Monday to Thursday, and at 1:15pm on Fridays next year, therefore we ask parents picking up their child to plan on being at the school 5 minutes before dismissal with a pre-arranged outdoor meeting space to ensure that children are with an adult as soon as the school day ends. Should you be running a few minutes late on any day, please be sure to contact the office to make arrangements to have your child come to the school office and await your arrival at 403 777-6050.
