A reminder that there is no school this Friday May 15 (non-instructional day) and Monday, May 18 (Victoria Day). School resumes on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.
1. Jump Rope for Heart
A reminder that Jump Rope for Heart will be occurring during PE class over the next week. Students will participate in a variety of skipping activities. Donations are being accepted online, if interested and able, directly through the Heart & Stroke Foundation’s Jump Rope for Heart Marion Carson donation webpage.
2. Swimming Lessons (Grade 1-4)
Swimming begins next week and runs through to May 29, 2026. Please be sure to send your child to school with all necessary items to make swimming a success. One key item is a waterproof bag for wet items for after their lesson (and of course their bathing suit and towel). Please see you child’s Google Classroom for details specific to your class. The swimming schedule is posted here.
3. A Message from School Council and Parent Association
School Council and Parent Association Annual General Meeting (AGM) – May 19, 2026
The final School Council meeting of the year is the School Council and Parent Association Annual General Meeting (AGM) this Tuesday, May 19 at 6:30pm in the Library Learning Commons. At this meeting, we will be taking nominations for Council Executive positions and filling committee lead roles. Please see below for information on various open roles for this year. If you have any questions on what these roles entail or have interest in one of the roles, please send Council an email at mcschoolcouncil@gmail.com.
Open Positions for School Council and Parent Association (Require 1 Year Commitment, 8 Meetings per Year)
School Council Open Positions:
Chair:
- The Chair leads and chairs the monthly meetings, is a bank signatory, picks up mail from the Council mailbox at the school, checks and signs any financial returns before the Treasurer files them, and leads/coordinates/oversees the council-sponsored events at the school, in collaboration with the council executive and school administration.
Vice Chair:
- The Vice Chair assists the Chair, may ascend to the Chair position in a later year, is a bank signatory, and supports the leading/coordination/oversight of the council-sponsored events at the school, in collaboration with the council executive and school administration.
Marion Carson Parent Association (MCPA) Open Positions:
Apparel Coordinator:
- Coordinates and supports Marion Carson School apparel sales for students and families.
COSC/Key Communicator:
- Attends monthly meeting (virtual and/or in person), provides summary /highlights of the meeting at the Marion Carson Parent Association meetings.
Fun Lunch Coordinator:
- Coordinates and supports fun lunch / fun snack days for students.
Fundraising Co-Lead:
- Organize, research, co-lead and oversee fundraising opportunities, and consider new ideas for how we can fundraise to benefit Marion Carson School students today.
Special Events Co-Lead:
- Coordinate and/or plan a special event such as dances, welcome back celebrations, movie nights, teacher appreciation lunches, cultural festivals, etc.
Volunteer Coordinator:
- Organize the volunteers, set up sign-ups with committee leads, sends emails for information and opportunities to volunteer in the school, classrooms, and/or events.
Parent Education Coordinator:
- Organizes and plans a parent education night for parents in the school or community.
Growing Smiles pickup:
- Please pickup on May 22 between 1pm-4pm. If you cannot come at this time, please contact us at mcshoolcouncil@gmail.com to make arrangements. Any orders left behind will be donated.
