          School Fees – Update

A Message from School Council and Parent Association

A few items of note…

Changes in Weather

With the beautiful weather, comes a change in the clothing and footwear that students often wear to school, and different needs for our body. This week, we spoke with students over morning announcements about the importance of being prepared for the weather that each day brings. Reminder to families that students must continue to have a pair of indoor shoes, and outdoor shoes so that we can keep our building clean. We also talked about the importance of having footwear that supports being active both inside and outside the building. We ask that families do not send crocs, sandals or shoes with heels to school as these make it difficult for children to fully participate in all activities. Finally, we spoke about the importance of keeping hydrated, especially on hot days. Students are encouraged to have non-glass, spillproof water bottle at school each day that they can have readily available in their classroom. Thank you for your help in supporting students for each day’s learning.

School Fees – Outstanding Fee Reminder Sent

This week outstanding fee reminders were sent to all families. Please look in your child’s backpack for these notices. Since my last Friday message about fees, parents have paid $5940.25 worth of fees. That is amazing for 1 week. Thank you very much to parents who took the time to go online and pay their fees. We currently still have $20,421.40 of outstanding fees. This is common at this time of year with many field trips happening over the past month. With 22 classes, this is roughly $1000 per class in parent fees still owing. If you haven’t already, please go in and pay your fees through your MyCBE account (be sure to look under each child’s tab if you have more than one child).

Thank you to those who supported the Bottle Drive last week. As a school, we collected $611. Way to go Marion Carson families!

School Council and Parent Association Annual General Meeting (AGM)

Thank you to all families who attended the School Council and Parent Association Annual General meeting this past week. We had a great turn out and were able to hear all about the wonderful events and initiatives put on by the council this year, and some of what is being planned for the 2025-26 school year. The rumours are true, due to popular demand, we will be having a 2nd Annual Fun Run tentatively set for May 2, 2026. We have also been given our casino fundraiser dates for October 26 and 27, 2025. The casino fundraiser is a major fundraiser for our school that provides typically $60,000+ for our school. The AGLC is very strict on the volunteer requirement, and if we don’t fill all spots, then we lose funds, or our fundraiser with them gets cancelled. It requires 40+ volunteers, so we ask that parents save the dates. More information with a sign-up will be coming out with more details when ready.

Please email mcschoolcouncil@gmail.com if you have questions about council or any of their initiatives. Meeting minutes and agendas are posted to the school website here once available.

Sincerely,

Mr. Dustin Turner

Principal, Marion Carson School
