Hello / Nǐ hǎo Marion Carson School Families,

Thank you to our students, staff, and families for helping us recognize Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Throughout the past week, our classrooms have had opportunities to learn, listen, reflect, and deepen our understanding of the experiences of Indigenous peoples and the ongoing work of reconciliation.

We also had student leadership tally up the donations from our Toonies for Terry Campaign. Cash and online donations totaled $464.50. Way to go, Marion Carson School families! Thank you for your generosity and for helping our students understand the importance of giving back and supporting others.

  1. Annual Video Surveillance

Our school has a video surveillance system to help maintain a safe and secure environment at the school for students, staff and the public, and to help address vandalism and criminal activity on school property.

The video surveillance system is installed and reviewed in accordance with Administrative Regulation 1066. Personal information is collected under the authority of the Education Act and the Protection of Privacy Act (POPA), specifically section 10(1) and the Access to Information Act (ATIA) .

This technology can be placed in areas such as the school parking lot, building entrances and exits, stairwells and hallways. This information is recorded and collected to help maintain a safe and secure environment in the school and on school property. The users of this information are the principal or designate and  law enforcement personnel in the case of reported incidents that would require an investigation. Only authorized persons will review video surveillance information.

Inquiries concerning the video surveillance system, or the collection and use of recorded information may be made by contacting the school office.

2. Traffic Safety

The safety of our students and families continues to be a priority, particularly during arrival and dismissal times. We are asking all families to please slow down, remain patient, and follow all posted traffic and parking signs around the school.

Please remember to use designated crosswalks when crossing the street, obey no-parking and no-stopping areas, and do not make U-turns where they are prohibited. We also ask that drivers remain alert and watch carefully for students and families who are walking or crossing near the school.

We understand that drop-off and pick-up can be busy, and we appreciate everyone's patience and cooperation. A few extra minutes and a little extra care can make a significant difference in keeping our students, families, and community safe.

Thank you for helping us make safety a shared responsibility at Marion Carson.

3. Dress for the Weather

We have been fortunate to enjoy some beautiful autumn weather! As we know, Calgary weather can change quickly, so we encourage families to send students to school prepared for a range of temperatures and conditions. Please ensure your child has warm outdoor clothing, including a winter jacket, toque, mitts, and snow pants as the weather gets colder.

Students should also have appropriate shoes or boots for outdoor play and activities. Having a change of shoes for indoors is also helpful in keeping our school clean and safe.

If you are looking for winter clothing, please see the School Council/Parent Association message below about the upcoming Winter Gear Swap.
