Hello / Nǐ hǎo Marion Carson School Families,
In this message…
- No School – September 29 and 30
- Meet the Teacher Book Fundraiser
- Child & Youth Well-Being Family & Caregiver Series
- Marion Carson Digital Citizenship Plan
- School Council and Parent Association
A reminder that there is no school on September 29 (non-instructional day) and September 30 (National Day for Truth and Reconciliation). School resumes on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.
Thank you to all families who attended the Meet the Teacher / Kindergarten Parent Teacher Conference evening last night. We heard that families appreciated the opportunity to learn about the specific classroom routines, processes and expectations, while also getting a chance to take a tour of the classroom, and visit other teachers also connected to their child’s learning.
We've had quite a few questions about possible teacher labour action with it becoming quite relevant in the news. We thank families for their support during this time. Please understand that it continues to be business as usual as the work continues towards a collective agreement. We are very proud of the work that our teacher's do as we build our amazing students and your children into the positive citizens and leaders of the future. It is important for families to continue to follow the Calgary Board of Education webpage for the most up to date information. You can find a direct link here.
Some items of note…
2. Meet the Teacher Book Fundraiser:
We are happy that families were able to declutter some of their bookshelves at home, and maybe pick-up a book or two for a small donation and a great cause. In total, we raised $216.50 for the Accessible Creative Playground and Naturalization projects. Remaining books will be distributed to classrooms around the school, and offered to our KinderCare / Briar Hill programs housed within the school.
3. SoundKreations Dance Residency
We are excited to host a SoundKreations Dance Residency throughout the month of October, focusing on Hip Hop Styles. This is a school-wide residency for students in Kindergarten through grade 6. On October 7, 8, 9, 14, 15, 16, 22, 23, and 24 students will be participating in the residency through their regular Physical Education classes led by the SoundKreations Dance experts. The fee for this residency is $12/student and will be posted to your MyCBE Account in the near future. You will receive a message from the school when the fee is posted. For more information on SoundKreations, please visit their website here.
4. Child & Youth Well-Being Family & Caregiver Series
The Calgary Board of Education invites all parents and guardians to join a free live online series on supporting child and youth well-being. The series is hosted by the Recovery Alberta Community Education Service (CES) Program in collaboration with local experts from the Calgary community.
Sessions are designed to provide families with knowledge, tools, and strategies to help navigate the challenges and opportunities of raising children and teens today. Additional session details are available on the Child and Youth Family and Caregiver Series webpage.
