Spirit Day – Funny Custom Costume Day (Monday, April 15, 2024)
Our student leadership group has decided on our next spirit day. On Monday, April 15 students are encouraged to dress in a custom costume. Be creative and have fun. No masks that cover faces, toy weapons, or costumes that would be deemed scary to our students please. Please also ensure that students who have Alien Inline skating on this day have costumes that can easily be removed for their skating block. The following classes have Alien Inline on this day (Ms. M Zhang, Ms. Eastly, Ms. Li, Ms. Campbell, and Ms. Hay)
Alien Inline Residency for K – 4 students and Family Skate Night
Our K-4 Alien Inline Residency started this past Thursday for many classrooms. On April 25, all families (K-6) are welcome to come to the Family Skate Night hosted by Alien Inline and our Parent Association right here at Marion Carson School. The event will run from 5:30pm – 8:30pm in the school gymnasium. There is a specific capped limit of skaters able to be using the equipment for this event based on space restrictions, therefore we are asking interested families to please sign up for tickets to enter during a designated time slot. Parents must be supervising their children at all times. Many volunteers are needed to support this event. Please use the links below to sign up to volunteer, and to sign-up for a skating time slot. No entry to the gym will be possible outside of your time slot, therefore we ask families to please plan ahead, and skate only during their time slot. Cash concessions with drinks and lights snacks will be available (cash only) and can be found in the library learning commons/main floor hallways.

United Nations Chinese Language Day – Free Cultural Event
April 20th is the United Nations Chinese Language Day. Chinese was designated as an official language of the United Nations in 1946. The UN offices around the world have hosted cultural events to celebrate this day. This year, the event will be hosted at the Central Library on Saturday, April 20th, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Activities planned for the day include a free Chinese language lesson, Chinese calligraphy workshop, presentations and traditional Chinese music performance. Participation is free of charge and pre-registration is preferred. This link will take you to the registration page for the event. https://calgarylibrary.ca/events-and-programs/programs/chinese-language-day/#:~:text=April%2020%20is%20the%20United,events%20to%20celebrate%20cultural%20diversity.
We believe that this event can offer valuable educational experiences outside the classroom and encourage students to learn more about the Chinese culture.
Sincerely,
Dustin Turner
Principal, Marion Carson School
