*See last week’s message for more details about these conferences and the book fair.
Understanding Universal Screeners
Universal screeners are assessments that measure a learner’s proficiency in different skills. In the Calgary Board of Education, teachers administer mandatory literacy and numeracy screening assessments in Kindergarten to Grade 3. The types of universal screeners include:
- The Assessment of Foundational Reading Skills (AFRS)
- Letter Name and Sound Test (LeNS)
- The Castles and Coltheart Reading Test 3 (CC3)
- Provincial Numeracy Screening Assessments
The Understanding Universal Screeners flat sheet is an information page that describes our mandatory screeners and helps explain their purpose.
School Planning and Engagement
Thank you to those families who took the time to complete the Planning and Engagement Survey and provide valuable feedback in our planning for the 2024-25 school year. If you would like to review the results and feedback provided, a summary is posted to our website here.
A Message from School Council and Parent Association
School Council and Parent Association Meeting – March 20, 2024 at 10am
Please join us at our next School Council and Parent Association meeting on March 20, 2024 in person at Marion Carson School starting at 10am. Please note that this is the second School Council meeting occurring this year in the morning as a way to try and open up the opportunity for parents/guardians to attend these meetings who typically can’t in the evening. Please click here for past meeting minutes and the upcoming agenda.
Book Fair Volunteers
We still have volunteer shifts available for Friday March 22. If you are available, please consider helping for a couple hours so we can make our book fair a success! We rely on parent volunteers to be able to offer our in-person book fairs. You can bring your children with you for your shift if needed. Volunteers will get access to the Scholastic warehouse sale in the spring (located in NE Calgary). Thank you in advance for your support.
