Student-Led Conferences – March 21/22

It was absolutely wonderful seeing so many families celebrating and participating in their child’s learning over the past two days at student-led conferences. Congratulations students on being empowered in your learning and sharing the progress you’ve made so far this year with pride and joy.

Alien Inline Residency for K – 4 students

A reminder that our K-4 Physical Education classes will be partaking in our Alien Inline residency from April 4 to 25. Forms were sent home this past week and were due back yesterday. If you haven’t returned these forms, please be sure to return them on the first day back from break to ensure that your child can participate. We thank you for your cooperation and look forward to a great residency. There will be an Alien Inline Family skate night on April 25 where all families from K-6 are invited. More details will be shared in the near future.

A Message from School Council and Parent Association

We will be having a FUNdraiser on May 31 from 5:30pm-8:00pm. This year we are using our Spring Fling to help raise money for Varsity's first all inclusive playground and more play space areas. As many of you know, we started this project last school year and now we are ready to start taking donations and hosting fundraisers.

As we gear up to design and raise funds for our outdoor play space improvements, we thought we'd add a playful touch to our Spring Fling Dance!  This year, there will be outdoor 'carnival' type games available in the compound area during the dance. These will be simple, classic-type carnival games like ring toss, and we're asking families to sign up to host a game. This is a fun way to be involved in the Spring Fling, and to support the school's commitment to providing quality outdoor play for our students.

Here are some easy ideas for games:

  • bean bag toss
  • ring toss
  • fish pond (throw fishing line over a board, a volunteer on the other side attaches a prize to their line)
  • bowling (plastic bins)
  • lucky duck pond- baby pool with rubber ducks- ducks could have a hook, or just use a small net, kids scoop at duck, prize is written on the bottom
  • ladder golf
  • nerf gun or water gun target shooting
  • or make up your own game!

*These should be simple, low cost/low equipment activities!

If your family would like to be involved in this, please email Devon at devonkarchut@gmail.com with your family's name, game idea, and if you need help getting supplies.

Attached in this message are the Spring Fling & Carnival flyer and playground information and donation levels. Please pass that along to businesses that you think would like to help us out! More information about the Play Area Committee and what they're planning can be found at our School Council meetings (next one is April 24th 7:00pm), our monthly newsletters, our social media pages, or by emailing us at mcschoolcouncil@gmail.com.

Sincerely,

Mr. Dustin Turner

Principal, Marion Carson School
