I am sending this message a little earlier than typical this week as we wanted to ensure families are aware of the upcoming events moving into the end of this week and into the start of next week. A reminder that there is no school on September 27 (school conferences) and September 30 (National Day for Truth and Reconciliation).
Orange Shirt Day – Sept. 26, 2024
On Thursday, September 26, students at Marion Carson School are invited to wear orange shirts and/or clothing in recognition of Orange Shirt Day, and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Orange shirt day is a day in which schools across Canada recognize, and teach about the residential schools that occurred between 1931 and 1996. Teachers engage with students in a holistic method of approaching this day, and one that relies on their knowledge of students within each of their classroom communities. Our focus this year encompasses the lens of our exploration of "We Belong" in connection to our Marion Carson School 2024-2025 Commitment to Truth and Reconciliation, as shared with our school community on June 21, 2024. The events of residential schools are carefully discussed in an age and grade appropriate way.
School Meet the Teacher Conferences – Sept 26 and 27, 2024
School conferences are scheduled for September 26 from 4:30pm - 7:30pm and September 27 from 8:30am – 12pm noon. The booking window to secure your 10-minute conference with your child’s homeroom teacher is open now, and closes tomorrow, Thursday, Sept 26 at 12pm noon. Bookings are completed through your MyCBE account by clicking on the Book and Manage Meeting Times tab. Please be sure to book your conference for this important initial conversation with your child’s teacher to help set the stage for the year, and support their daily learning moving forward.
A Message on behalf of School Council / Parent Association
School Council / Parent Association Meeting
School Council has invited MLA Dr. Luanne Metz, and Trustee Charlene May to our upcoming meeting. We are collecting questions in advance of the meeting to support staying within our scheduled time frame for the meeting and to hopefully support each representative’s responses. To submit a question for MLA Dr. Metz or School Board Trustee May, please email your question to mcschoolcouncil@gmail.com by 11:59 pm MT, Tuesday, October 8, 2024. We hope you consider joining us at next month’s meeting on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at 6:30pm. Meeting minutes and upcoming agendas are posted to our school website here once finalized.
