Cheque Writing Campaign / School Donations

This year, Marion Carson School will not be doing as specific cheque-writing campaign with specific start and end dates. As a school, we have setup a Marion Carson Fundraising page  through Education Matters where families may choose to support our school and it’s students directly by making a donation at any time throughout the school year.

This past year, donations went towards our new AV System in the gym, a piano for music to replace the broken one, library learning commons supplies, and subject-specific resources such as math manipulatives, books, art supplies, science and social studies materials, and physical education equipment for all students.

To donate to Marion Carson School, please click here (DONATE NOW) or text “EdMatters MARION” to 30333 to donate $5 or $10 to Marion Carson School. The donation will be added to the donor’s monthly cellphone bill. For more specific details, click on https://www.educationmatters.ca/project-matters/marion-carson-school/.

Important Winter Musical Information – December 14, 2023

This year Marion Carson School is hosting two performances for the Winter Musical Celebration in our school gymnasium.  On December 14, 2023, half of the homeroom classes will perform at 5:30pm (doors open at 5pm) and the other half will perform at 7:30pm (doors open at 7pm).

For this Winter Celebration, we will be presenting the musical Fa La La Land.  Students will be singing, speaking, moving to songs and playing instruments.  It will feature homeroom classes as well as a Grades 5 & 6 cast that will be leading various roles within the musical.

Tickets will not be handed out this year.  To ensure that we’re not overcrowded, stay within our building capacity limits, and ensure that all families are provided an opportunity to attend the event, we ask that families limit their attendance to a maximum of two parents/guardians per child and their sibling(s). Please note that students at Marion Carson School will have watched the dress rehearsal during the school day on December 14.  Other family members who can attend the rehearsals during the day are also encouraged to attend during this time to help reduce evening crowds.

West Entry Doors will be opened 30 minutes before each evening performance and 15 minutes prior to dress rehearsals. If waiting outside, please line up down the sidewalk towards Varsity Drive. Please ensure that if you are driving to this event, you park in designated parking spaces, and avoid the staff parking lot or impacting any of our surrounding community homes.

Dress Rehearsals on December 14, 2023:

·       10:00am: Dress Rehearsal for 5:30pm evening performance

·       2:00pm: Dress Rehearsal for 7:30pm evening performance

Evening Performance on December 14, 2023:

·       7:30pm (Doors open at 7:00pm with performing students arriving no later than 7:10pm)

We ask that you ensure your child attends at their designated performance time and is dressed according to the costumes they have chosen as a class (listed below).

Please view the attachment to this news story found on the top right of this page under "Resources" for the homeroom classes assigned to each performance time and the outfit they are asked to wear.

We hope you can join us to recognize the importance of music in our lives and to celebrate together during this special time of year.

School Improvement Results Reporting & School Development Plan and Report to Parent on Fees

Alberta Education requires each school to create a plan to improve student learning. The School Development Plan aligns individual school goals with the identified goals in the CBE Education Plan | 2021-2024. Each year, schools capture evidence of continuous improvement towards the goals set. In accordance with Alberta Education’s Requirements for School Authority Planning and Results Reporting, schools then provide assurance to school communities by communicating student growth and achievement in an annual report that demonstrates improvement results and next steps. These results support continuous improvement of the quality and effectiveness of education programs provided to students while also improving student learning and achievement. Click on the links below to be directed to our Marion Carson School 2023-24 School Improvement Results Reporting & School Development Plan which is now posted on our school website, as well as the 2022-23 Report to Parents/Guardians on Fees.
