Dear Parents / Guardians,

In this message…

  • Report Cards / Outstanding School Fees
  • Chinese Lunar New Year Activities / Cultural Clothing
  • Grade 4-6 Surveys

What a wonderful Quest Theatre Lunar New Year performance put on during this second and final week of our Residency. Our students in both week’s performances did an amazing job of tying in multi-cultural perspectives into this whole school Lunar New Year Celebration, while also learning about and celebrating Chinese culture. Thank you to everyone who made both performances possible and to parents/ guardians for your positive words of encouragement and support as we connected both school programs into one joyous united Marion Carson School occasion.

Report Cards / Outstanding School Fees

K-6 teachers report cards are now live for viewing through your MyCBE account. While in your account looking at your child(ren)’s report cards, we ask that you look into the fees section of your account and take the time to pay any outstanding fees. Fees are uploaded throughout the year, based on classroom and whole school activities or events connected to each child’s participation and learning. When a new fee is added you will receive an email from either CBE (central fees) or from our school (for school-based fees). We thank you for your prompt payment of these posted fees.

Chinese Lunar New Year Activities / Cultural Clothing

Throughout next week, and specifically on February 9th, students will be participating in Chinese Lunar New Year Activities organized by teachers and students. Please ask your students about some of the activities that they will have enjoyed throughout this time as we celebrate together as a whole school community. To celebrate all cultures at Marion Carson we would like to invite students to wear Traditional Chinese cultural clothing or their family’s cultural clothing, on February 9th should they choose, as we celebrate Chinese Lunar New Year.

Grade 4-6 Surveys

Alberta Education Assurance Survey (Grade 4): Students of Grade 4 will be completing the Alberta Education Assurance Survey in class over the coming weeks. Students respond to 25 questions about their experiences at school related to quality of education, teaching and learning across various subjects and around aspects of a safe, caring and welcoming school. All teachers complete this survey as well. Each year, parents of grade 4 students receive an access code and survey link to complete the parent version of this survey. It comes in the mail to your home directly from Alberta Education. These surveys have started to arrive this week. We strongly encourage parents to take the time to complete this survey on behalf of Marion Carson School.

CBE Student Survey: Grade 5 and 6 students will be completing the CBE Student Survey in the coming weeks. This survey collects student perceptions about their learning experiences in the school and classroom.

Both of these surveys provide valuable feedback to the school, and support provincial and Calgary Board of Education data.

Sincerely,

Mr. Dustin Turner

Principal, Marion Carson School
