1.     Library Learning Commons Books Due

A reminder that this past week of June 8-12 was the final book exchange for all students at Marion Carson School for the 2025-26 school year. Student/family overdue reports will be sent out by our librarian, Ms. Parshina, by June 17th. Any books not returned by June 19 will be charged to your MyCBE account. *If you received a message that you have an outstanding book and believe this is in error, please email the school before the end of the day Thursday, June 18, 2026.

2.     Sports Day – June 19, 2026

The Super Sports Showdown is almost here! Sports Day is coming on June 19, 2026! Our Super Sports Showdown will run from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Leadership Students are excited to connect with all students. They have been working hard and have created exciting sports-themed stations in addition to a snack station. Please note that the snack will be a juice box and Kirkland Soft & Chewy granola bar. If you would not like your child to have one or either of these items, please email your child’s teacher. Students are encouraged to wear their favourite sports team jersey and help us celebrate a fun-filled day of school spirit! Special thank you to Ms. Collins and the Student Leadership group for organizing this event.

3.     Lost and Found

Lost & Found items have been put on display in the main hallway. Classrooms have been making their way to these tables as a class looking to match lost items to their owners. Please see attached pictures of the tables to see if any items belong to your family. All remaining items will be donated as of June 26 at 2pm.

4.     Class Size Reduction Grant

We are pleased to inform you that our school has been allocated 3 additional teaching position(s) for the 2026–27 school year through the Government of Alberta’s Class Size Reduction Grant. This grant funds teaching positions that support improved learning conditions in kindergarten to Grade 9 classrooms.

This funding is specifically intended to help reduce class sizes in core subject areas (English Language Arts/French Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies), with priority given to schools experiencing the greatest class size pressures.

This decision was made using system-wide data that considers:

  • The number of classes exceeding provincial class size benchmarks
  • Projected enrolment and class organization
  • School programming and grade configuration

Our goal is to ensure students benefit from:

  • Increased teacher attention
  • Improved classroom learning environments
  • Greater support for diverse learning needs

We remain committed to supporting strong learning environments for all students and using our resources thoughtfully and strategically.

5.     System Student Accommodation Plan (SSAP) Messaging

On June 10, you should have received a message from the Calgary Board of Education through School Messenger sharing that Marion Carson is one of many schools listed as being on the 2026-2029 System Student Accommodation Plan (SSAP). Please note that this message shares that some changes may occur within the next 18 months, but that no decisions have been made by the system at this time. We have received confirmation that both the Mandarin Bilingual and Community English Programs will both continue at Marion Carson School. Please see the system’s message here for more details.

6.     School Fees

We would like to thank all families who went into their MyCBE Account since my last message about fees and paid their fees. With two weeks to go in the school year, please continue to monitor your MyCBE Account under the School Fees section and pay all remaining fees at this time. Families will continue to be notified as applicable when new fees are added. Please check MyCBE regularly through to the end of the year to ensure that your payments are up to date. We thank you for your prompt payment.
